About this site
What this site is
Antitrust Lab is a collection of interactive tools for teaching competition economics. It is a non-commercial teaching project by Bernhard Ganglmair. All numbers in the tools are illustrative. Nothing on this site is legal advice.
How the tools work
Each tool is a small program. When you open a tool, the program is downloaded into your browser and runs on your own device. That is why the first visit takes a little longer.
- The numbers you enter and the sliders you move stay on your device. They are not sent to a server.
- You need no account and no login.
- The site sets no cookies.
What is recorded
Hosting. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. As with any website, the host’s servers receive your IP address when your browser requests a page. GitHub describes what it does with this in its privacy statement.
Visit counter. The site counts how often each page is opened, using GoatCounter. For each visit the counter records the page, the country, the type of browser and device, the screen size, the browser language, and the page you came from. It sets no cookies, does not store your IP address, and builds no profile of you. The counts tell me which tools are used; they do not tell me who used them or what was entered.
Feedback form. The “Feedback” link opens a form on Google Forms. Using it is voluntary. The form asks for no name and no email address; what you write is visible only to me. Google’s privacy policy applies to the form.
The logo
The logo shows a market with three firms that have market shares of 50, 30 and 20 percent. The side of each square is a firm’s market share, so the three squares span the diagonal of the market. The area of the squares, as a share of the whole square, is the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI) divided by 10,000. Here the HHI is 3,800.
